Filed between “not fucking surprising” and “perfect example of what’s wrong with the world,” an Israeli think-tank on August 2nd lauded the Islamic State as “a useful tool in undermining” Iran, Hezbollah, the Kurds, Syria, Russia, and anybody else that stands in Israel’s way.
The think tank, known by its acronym BESA, is affiliated with Israel’s Bar Ilan University and has been supported by the Israeli government, the NATO Mediterranean Initiative, the U.S. embassy in Israel and the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. It’s mission is to advance “a realist, conservative, and Zionist agenda in the search for security and peace for Israel.”
The paper was written by Prof. Efraim Inbar, an influential Israeli scholar and apparent two-bit super villan wannabe.
reports main thrust is that “If IS loses control over its territory, the energies that went into protecting and governing a state,” also known as mass rape and genocide, “will be directed…beyond its borders,” alluding to the common belief that Israeli lives are more important than those of Kurds, Syrians, and…well, anybody else. This is kinda like letting your neighbor beat the shit out of his wife in the hopes he’ll be too tired to yell at you afterwards.
“The Western distaste for IS brutality and immorality should not obfuscate strategic clarity,” notes the report in a vaguely German accent. Freely admitting ISIS “has killed thousands of people since it declared an Islamic caliphate in June 2014” the report callously states “stability is not a value in and of itself. It is desirable only if it serves our interests.”
This is as close as we’re going to get to the West admitting ISIS is merely the newest tool for the continued exploitation of the region.
The lives of millions of women and children are but perishable goods to Israel, worthwhile and valuable only so long as they can be traded for “strategic” interests, a mindset right at home in any fascist ideology. What’s unique is the fact that this odious opinion is coming out of an organization so close to government officials and Israeli billionaires (like Sheldon Adelson) and speaks volumes on how widely held it might be at the highest levels of power.
